Filmar at the CSR and Social Innovation Fair 2018

Like many other companies committed to sustainable development, Filmar has been invited to participate in the CSR and Social Innovation Fair held on 2nd and 3rd October 2018 at the Bocconi University in Milan, to share its valuable experience as a promoter of growth and development in Egypt.
During a meeting dedicated to discussing and evaluating the role of companies in creating valuable opportunities and positive alternatives to irregular migration, Filmar told about its experience in Egypt based on the creation of sustainable and socially inclusive value chains.
This approach, explained Mr. Vincenzo Gaspari, President of Filmar Nile Textile ".. has brought benefits to the company while creating  shared value for the Egyptian communities where we operate”.
The excellent quality of Egyptian cotton and the consolidated human movements between Italy and Egypt are some of the reasons that have driven Filmar’s choices in order to seize the challenges and opportunities of the North African country.
With about 500 people employed Filmar Nile Textile, located in Borg El Arab in the region of Alexandria, has always taken the responsibility and commitment to create a greater welfare for the whole hosting community. Through training activities and technical assistance to schools, Filmar Nile Textile provides the Egyptian youth (52% of the Egyptian 97 mil population,  is comprised in the age bracket  0-24 years), with valid means of protection from situations of strong socio-economic instability to overcome the challenges and risks related to the lack of employment in Egypt (34.3% youth unemployment rate). Youth unemployment is in fact one of the main push factors of irregular migratory flows towards Italy. In particular, through Filmar CSR programme Cottonforlife, besides supporting and promoting the great potential of the Egyptian cotton industry on the international market to increase employment, the company plays a role in curbing  the pressure to emigrate by enhancing internal and external human resources thanks to skill development and training activities in technical-professional schools and Universities. A winning approach that has enabled and continues to nurture cultural and professional development pathways for young people, by providing important tools to face more consciously the access to the labour market,  both in Egypt and abroad.

Why?
Because we consider people our major capital that needs to be preserved and nurtured over time. That is why people are at the core of our corporate strategy.
