Filmar yarns at the Eco Chic Design Award
Kate Morris, British Fashion designer, won first prize at the Eco-Chic design award with an upcycled collection created with Filmar’s yarns demonstrating the power of the circular economy, where nothing goes to waste. The EcoChic Design Award is a sustainable fashion design competition inspiring emerging fashion designers and students to create high-appeal clothing with minimal textile waste. Designers are educated with the theory and techniques to enable them to create high appeal clothing via the sustainable design techniques of zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction, and through the sourcing of textile waste for their collections. The competition puts emerging sustainable design talent in the spotlight, creating a platform for the next generation of designers to cut waste out of fashion.
We asked Kate about her possible role to promote sustainable fashion: “I believe the fashion industry has reached a critical point and I want to be part of the change – designing sustainable items of beauty for the masses is my dream and I am excited about winning this competition as it will me enable to contribute to a better future. I just wanted to say another huge thank you for Filmar's generous donation of yarn, without that none of this would have been possible!
